Fast Tracks TwistTies provides the craftsman with a way to build low-cost, realistic looking, and accurate S #5 curved or straight wyes with ease using all wood tie construction with spikes & rail. No soldering is required! Combined with our TwistTie fixed and flexible crosstie strips, you can finish all your trackwork in no time! Each TwistTie is laser cut as a single-piece lattice of pre-spaced, pre-drilled wood ties that:
- Can be curved to fit any desired radius while maintaining the wye size
- Include pre-drilled spike holes that ensure accurate gauging & geometry
- Makes wye construction faster & easier than traditional methods
- Takes the guesswork out of hand laying curved & straight wyes
- Includes etched guidelines to verify rail location
- Pre-spaced ties eliminate tie laying tedium
- Uses stainable wood ties
- Are NMRA compliant
TwistTies are cut from Baltic Birch plywood custom sawn in Finland specifically for Fast Tracks. Like the prototype, the wood grain on our TwistTies runs perpendicular to the rails. The ties are 0.1" (2.5mm), 7 scale inches thick and 0.14" (3.6mm) 9 scale inches wide. They will match all popular commercially available wood ties, including wood ties available from Fast Tracks. The ties will also match all popular commercial track and our line of QuickSticks. Each TwistTie can be used to construct one S #5, hand turnout using code 70, 83 or 100 rail and are designed to work with Micro Engineering small spikes. If you order Fast Tracks TwistTies, we highly recommend that you consider purchasing a matching Frog Helper soldering jig and PointForm tool. This will make the construction of the frog and switch points much easier. You may also consider adding some of our CopperHead PC Board turnout ties (for the throwbar) to your order. If you are building curved turnouts, the rail will need to be pre-formed. Our Rail Roller bending tool will make this easy.
Note: Using our Assembly Fixtures, you will always get better and faster results with less effort. However, if you only need to build a small number of wyes or curved wyes of any radius, or if you prefer all wood tie construction, then TwistTies may be a better option.

Building Curved (and Straight) Turnouts With Fast Tracks TwistTies
TwistTies offer an alternative to building switches using an assembly fixture, PC Board ties, and solder. Instead, the switch is built using a pre-cut all wood tie lattice. This document provides detailed instructions.
Using the Frog Helper To Build Curved or Straight Turnout Frog Points
The Frog Helper tool works in the same manner as a full-sized assembly fixture but is specifically designed for building frog points. These instructions explain how to use the tool to construct curved or straight points and apply to all scales.
Using The Fast Tracks PointForm Tool To Build Switchpoints
The PointForm tool is not only used to file Frog points. It can also be used to file perfect switch points as well. Here is how it works.

How Fast Tracks SweepSticks can be used to precisely form a perfect radius in flextrack
Using The Fast Tracks Frog Helper To Build Curved Frog Points
The Fast Tracks Frog Helper tool can be used to build precision frogpoints for both straight and curved switches. Here we demonstrate how to build frogpoints for a curved turnout.
Using The Fast Tracks Frog Helper To Build Straight Frog Points
Building precision switch frog points is greatly simplified by using the Fast tracks Frog Helper tool along with the PointForm filing tool. This video demonstrates how.
Bending & Straightening Rail With The Fast Tracks Rail Roller
Bending rail into long smooth curves for curved trackwork can be challenging. The Fast Tracks Rail Roller tool makes this difficult job quick and easy. Plus it can straighten bent rail as well. This video shows you how it works.
