Struggling to get the layout of the two turnouts for a straight or curved crossover correct? Fast Tracks TwistTies for HO #6 single crossovers make building a perfect crossover a snap! Precise geometry is critical when constructing a crossover on a curve, and TwistTies solves this problem by allowing you to curve the entire crossover as a single unit. Once glued in place, the rail is spiked in place using the pre-drilled spike holes to ensure the proper geometry is maintained.
Track spacing through HO TwistTie single crossovers is 2″ centre to centre.
Using our SweepSticks track forms, you can easily and precisely get a curved crossover laid out and built correctly.
Each TwistTie is laser cut as a single-piece lattice of pre-spaced, pre-drilled wood ties that:

TwistTies are cut from Baltic Birch plywood custom sawn in Finland specifically for Fast Tracks. Like the prototype, the wood grain on our TwistTies runs perpendicular to the rails. The ties are 0.08” (2mm), 7 scale inches thick and 0.11” (2.8mm) 9 scale inches wide. They will match all popular commercially available wood ties, including wood ties available from Fast Tracks. The ties will also match all popular commercial track and our line of QuickSticks.
Each TwistTie can be used to construct one HO #6, right hand single crossover using code 70, 83, or 100 rail and are designed to work with Micro Engineering small spikes.
TwistTies for single crossovers are made from two sections of TwistTies. These two pieces are joined together using our TieClip connectors (included). Once joined, the entire single crossover can be flexed as a single unit and maintain proper geometry. Each TwistTie for Single Crossovers includes both halves needed to build a single crossover, plus the required TieClip joiners.
If you order Fast Tracks TwistTies, we highly recommend that you consider purchasing a matching Frog Helper soldering jig and PointForm tool. This will make the construction of the frog and switch points much easier. You may also consider adding some of our CopperHead PC Board turnout ties (for the throwbar) to your order. The rail will need to be pre-formed if you are building curved turnouts. Our Rail Roller bending tool will make this easy. All these items can be easily added to your order by selecting them from the options above.
When considering what turnout size to use for a curved single crossover, remember that curving a turnout will result in a much sharper radius on the diverging route than what is shown in the turnout specifications. A good rule of thumb is using the largest turnout possible, especially for a curved crossover.
Note: Using our Assembly Fixtures, you will always get better and faster results with less effort. However, if you only need to build a small number of wyes, curved wyes of any radius, or if you prefer all wood tie construction, then TwistTies may be a better option.
