This fixture features prototypical tie sizes and spacing, laid on a "cant." The ties are perpendicular to a line bisecting the straight and diverging route, a practice common on meter gauge trackwork used worldwide.

Dual gauge trackwork is unquestionably a work of art, especially turnouts. Building dual gauge switches by hand was usually a challenge usually left to only the most committed modelers, but not anymore! With Fast Tracks line of Dual Guage assembly fixtures, anyone modeling a dual gauge line has the option to build their own high-quality and accurate trackwork with ease. Build your own high quality, NMRA compliant, HO/HOn3.5, #5, dual gauge turnout with the narrow gauge running on the right hand side and get results that rival even the most skilled craftsman! Fast Tracks dual gauge assembly fixtures will help you build high-quality hand laid track that:
- Is Highly Accurate - Build Dual Gauge right side turnouts that stay in perfect gauge - permanently
- Performs Perfectly - Eliminates track related derailments
- Is Economical - Build hundreds of Dual Gauge right side turnouts with one fixture
- Is Versatile - A single fixture can be used to build up to 14 different types of dual and single gauge turnouts
- Can Be Built Quickly - Build a turnout in a few hours!
- Looks Great! - Get results that rival even the most experienced modelers
- Lets You Work in Comfort - Build trackwork at your workbench
- Is NMRA Compliant - Will work with any NMRA compliant equipment
Dual Gauge fixtures can be confusing as there are so many possible variations available, so read the information below carefully. Dual gauge trackwork will have the narrow gauge trains running either on the left or right-hand side of the standard gauge track. This can create a lot of possible combinations of switches and a lot of confusion over what might be needed. We sell two different fixtures for building dual gauge switches. These fixtures can produce both a left-hand and a right-hand dual gauge turnout. The fixture on this page has the narrow gauge running on the right side of the standard gauge track. We also have a matching fixture available, with the narrow gauge running on the opposite side. It can be challenging to build a layout with the narrow gauge always running on the same side of the standard gauge track. If you cannot make your design work with a narrow gauge operating on only the right hand side, we recommend getting both the LEFT and RIGHT-hand versions of the dual gauge fixtures.
There are 22 possible combinations of dual gauge trackwork with these two fixtures that can be constructed. Dual gauge assembly fixtures are the most versatile turnout fixture that we offer. A single fixture can be used to build standard HO or HOn3.5 turnouts and 11 different combinations of dual gauge turnouts. This assembly fixture can be used to construct trackwork for left hand and right hand, single and dual gauge #5, HO/HOn3.5 turnouts with the narrow gauge track on the right side, as shown in the image below.
Dual gauge QuickSticks are available to construct right side dual gauge turnouts shown in the blue shaded area shown in the image below. QuickSticks are also available for completing HO and HOn3.5 standard turnouts as shown in the red shaded areas. QuickSticks are not currently available for the unshaded versions. You need to purchase standard wood ties to complete these types of turnouts.
To build single HO turnouts with this fixture, order our standard HO #5 QuickSticks from the supplies tab above. Our standard HOn3.5 turnout QuickSticks will not work with this fixture. The size of a narrow gauge turnout built in a dual gauge fixture is longer than a regular narrow gauge turnout (as it has to match the length of a standard gauge turnout). To build regular #5 HOn3.5 turnouts, you need to use individual wood ties to complete the turnout. A selection of QuickSticks are also available to construct #5, HO/HOn3.5 dual gauge turnouts with the narrow gauge on the right side.
If you order a Fast Tracks assembly fixture, we highly recommend that you consider purchasing a dual gauge PointForm tool and, if you don't already have one, a StockAid stock rail filing tool. This will make the construction of the switch and frog points much easier. You may also consider adding some Copperhead PC board ties to your order.
