Micro Engineering code 55 non-weathered rail is recommended for use in all Fast Tracks assembly fixtures and hand laid track in general. The rail is very precisely made from nickel silver and can be easily soldered. Each piece is 18" long. The shorter length of this rail allows it to be shipped in a standard size box. If you do not need standard 36" rail lengths for your project, we recommend purchasing 18" rail to save on shipping fees.
Why We Recommend Micro Engineering Rail
Micro Engineering rail is precision drawn and maintains very tight base and head width tolerances (+/- .001"). These precise tolerances ensure that the rail is held precisely in gauge when a Fast Tracks assembly fixture is used to build a turnout.
Fast Tracks does not offer weathered rail, as it is not possible to solder this rail without removing the weathering treatment.
Note - we cut 18" rail from 36" rail stock. If the stock count shows that we are out of cut rail, check the stock levels of 36" rail. If it is in stock, we will produce 18" pieces to fill your order. There is no need to wait until it shows in stock to place your order.
36" Rail is also available.

I have found this to be a very consistent product; rail height (code) and profile make the fabrication of turnouts, and more important, the interface with "other" track mfg's predictable. I use Atlas 55 joiners and have had no problems with attaching the joiners. A bit of fiddling when connecting to micro-trains track as it seems to be code 60, but a gentle touch with a fine fine will solve this

The rail works perfectly in the FastTracks jigs. It's especially positive that you can order whatever quantity you want.

ME rails are excellent products. Code 55 is just right for modelling HOn3. Soldered to PC board ties or glued to wood ties (QuickSticks, TwistTies, individual) they are easy to handle. Cutter, cutting disk, jeweler saw... No problem, cuts are neat. A few filing it's just what it takes to remove blur. Easy to clean with alcohol and if they were painted along with PC board ties, a lacquer thinner does the job fine.

It's the rail the fixture was designed to use and it's compatible with other code 55 rail.

This is the rail you are looking for. It fits the jig perfectly, it has a prototype cross section. It just works. Don't futz around. Buy this rail and be happy.

I really liked how the code 55 rail fit in the jig and was easily to solder (once I relearned how to solder). So far I have built a 10-track, 8 foot storage yard using this code 55 rail. I have not had any problems with flange clearances and am happy with the electrical properties.

You can't go wrong with Micro Engineering rail and track, nice and easy to work with.

At first, I couldn't believe how small this rail was. After I got over my butterfingers, it became second nature. It solders well, and with the stock and frog point tool, it makes perfect turnouts!
